**_What You Will Do_**
Exciting opportunities exist in the Associate Laboratory Directorate for Weapons Production (ALDWP). This Engineering Technologist position will support facilitating continuous improvement initiatives based upon Lean Sigma principles with the operational teams in the Detonator Production Division. Primary work scope will be in support of the High Explosive Detonator Fabrication (DET-1), Inert Component Fabrication Group (DET-2), and the Detonator Operations (DET-3) teams responsible for the fabrication, inspection, and testing of War Reserve experimental detonator components and subcomponents.
+ Seek out opportunities to improve organizational processes and create a culture of continuous improvement (CI) using Lean, Kaizen, Six Sigma, and other CI methodologies/tools.
+ Support the organization through strategic initiatives involving continuous improvement (CI) and become point of contact for guidance on applying CI methodologies and tools.
+ Analyze existing process flows and layouts to determine effective and efficient production options
+ Support process improvements initiatives through PDCA methodology and tools (A3, Quick wins)
+ Develop data collection strategies and complete data analysis to drive process improvement activities
+ Provide Value Stream Mapping (VSM) for current and future states of key process areas and product lines to reduce waste and variation
+ Work in partnership with process engineers and technicians to facilitate activities for collecting baseline data, managing metrics, and setting targets.
+ Assist teams in developing and modifying standard work documentation and best practices
+ Provide input on communication strategies and training activities when changes or new processes are implemented
+ Work with PA Engineers to determine process health and improvement plans
+ Develop and communicate project status updates, provide recommendations, and highlight items needing appropriate escalation
+ Solve root cause issues and prevent recurring problems
+ Work with cross functional teams to understand any HE, safety, and security requirements for proposed solutions.
**_What You Need_**
**Minimum Job Requirements:**
+ Experience in improving organizational processes and creating a culture of continuous improvement (CI) using Lean, Kaizen, Six Sigma, and other CI methodologies/tools.
+ Basic proficiency with engineering modeling software (e.g. AutoCAD, Creo, Solid Works) to facilitate layout design activities
+ Demonstrated technical knowledge associated with production processes related to manufacturing.
+ Experience in understanding and documenting process flows, product flows, and mapping activities in Visio
+ Demonstrated ability to successfully work and participate on cross functional teams
+ Understanding of structured problem solving approach to evaluate and solve issues
+ Background of helping to create a culture of continuous improvement across all levels of the organization
+ Self-starter and quick learner that can handle multiple tasks/projects with excellent results
+ Ability to use MS Office products such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
+ Advanced knowledge of production manufacturing quality implementation.
+ Advanced knowledge nuclear security enterprise (NSE) weapons programs.
+ Working proficiency with engineering modeling software (e.g. AutoCAD, Creo, Solid Works) to facilitate layout design activities
+ Ability to creatively think outside the box when developing solutions to existing problems
+ Familiarity using MS Project and Access data base tools
+ Active or reinstatable Department of Energy “Q” clearance
**Education:** Bachelor’s degree required in engineering, engineering technology, or manufacturing management/technology and 2 years relevant experience.

The Detonator PA is located at Technical Area 22 (TA-22), at the foot of the Pajarito Skill Hill, part of the Jemez mountains. Responsible for the manufacturing of a wide variety of War Reserve (WR) and experimental detonators for use by diverse set of customers. The Detonator PA also performs Detonator surveillance to support early identification of stockpile aging concerns and strives to predict the lifetime of weapon components and materials.
