Independent of supervision in a hospital setting, as a significant part of daily duties, responsible for treatment of patients with life-threatening illness or injury, whose conditions are likely to change on a moment-to-moment basis. Under the direction of the Specialties Supervisor and the Cardiology Service Chief, provide technical support to the Cardiology Service. Responsibilities include coordination of procedures with other services, performance of specialized diagnostics such as echocardiograms, ECG’s, pacemaker interrogation, surgical assistance and monitoring of critically ill patients during specialized cardiology procedures, operate specialized imaging equipment, maintain an inventory of specialized catheters and other specialized equipment for all cardiology procedures. Clean and organize exam rooms and treatment areas as well as general equipment maintenance. Provide occasional technical support to other specialty services within the VMTH. – Current California Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) license.

-Experience independently providing intense, moment to moment monitoring/reassessment of emergent/critically ill patients.

-Experience independently inducing and monitoring anesthesia.

-Experience recognizing normal values of physiological vital functions in small and large domestic animals.

-Experience operating basic anesthesia equipment i.e., anesthesia machines, ventilators and various monitoring and lab equipment.

-Experience performing catheterization and blood collection using various vessels.

-Experienced in aseptic technique and working in an operating room.

-Skill to palpate patients, take vital signs, observe patient condition and accurately document findings in the medical record.

-Experience performing hospital sanitation and infection control.

-Experience in medical terminology and skills to communicate verbally, and in writing, with a wide variety of people professionally and diplomatically.

-Experience calculating drug dosages and fluid rates.

-Experience administering PO, IV, IM, SQ medications and performing a wide variety of treatments.

-Experience restraining and safely handling all types of small and large domestic animals.
